A two-storey cabin set deeper into the property, with the bedroom up and the living down.

Iron Bark sits along the lake path with the same two-storey plan as Rose Gum: king upstairs, sofa bed in the lounge, bathroom and kitchen on the ground floor.

A larger plan suits a family of up to four, but the design keeps the cabin couple-suited when the sofa bed is stowed. Upstairs windows frame the lake; the downstairs lounge opens onto a covered patio with a hooded BBQ and timber dining setting.

The kitchen handles longer stays comfortably: stovetop, microwave, full-size fridge, kettle and toaster. No oven – the BBQ outside does the work. Reverse-cycle air conditioning, ceiling fans, gas hot water and hardwood floors throughout.

## The morning

A continental hamper is stocked in the cabin for the length of your stay: cereals, bread, butter, jams, juice, milk. Each morning Michael delivers fresh croissants to the door. Coffee from the kitchen, taken on the patio.

## The evening

Welcome chocolates wait on the kitchen bench. From April to September, firewood is supplied for the slow-combustion fireplace; light it from the basket beside the hearth and run the spa bath deep. The possums usually come down to the lawn around dusk.

## Beyond the cabin

Kondalilla National Park starts on the property boundary; the trailhead to the falls is a short walk. Montville village is a five-minute drive for cafés, galleries and the historic clock shop. Maleny and Mapleton sit a little further along the ridge.
