About

A sixteen-acre retreat in the Blackall Range.

Ten self-contained timber cabins, deliberately spaced fifty to one hundred metres apart, set against remnant rainforest and a spring-fed lake. Couples first, hands-on hosted, run by Karen and Michael Cross since 2024.

Montville Country Cabins property at golden hour

Your hosts

Karen and Michael Cross.

Karen and Michael took over Montville Country Cabins in 2024 and run it as a hands-on, couple-focused retreat. Years of Australian and international hospitality work sit behind the quiet attention to detail: a continental hamper waiting in the cabin, hot croissants delivered to the door each morning, a tour desk for the days you want to head out, and a long memory for which cabin you prefer.

Michael’s croissants

Warm croissants at your door, every morning.

Each morning, Michael delivers fresh croissants to your door. It is the detail guests mention more than any other. It sits within a longer list of small, unhurried touches: a continental hamper stocked in the cabin for your whole stay, a cheese platter and chocolates waiting when you arrive, firewood split and ready through the cooler months. Nothing showy, all of it looked after before you think to ask.

The property

Sixteen acres. Ten cabins. One pace.

Standalone timber cabins set against remnant rainforest, manicured gardens and a spring-fed lake. Each cabin has its own wood fireplace, king-size spa bath, BBQ balcony and rainforest outlook. The property adjoins Kondalilla National Park; Montville Village is a five-minute drive.

Philosophy

A deliberately quiet place.

There is no Wi-Fi in the cabins. The geography limits coverage and we have leaned into it: this is an unplug-and-listen-to-the-rain place. The luxury is in the experience, not the rating – the property is officially a 3.5-star holiday park, run with the care of somewhere far more pretentious.
